Likening the current government with Hitler, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia said on Saturday it must step aside forthwith and be made accountable to the people of the country, reports UNB.

"Your (govt's) days are numbered, no matter how much efforts you will make to cling to power along with Ershad. I want to equivocally tell you that you won't be able to hang onto power for a long time. You have to go…you must go," she said.

She alleged that the government politicised all institutions and administration of the country as it got isolated from people.

The former prime minister warned the government that the politicised administration and police would not remain in favour of AL when it would quit power.

Khaleda also warned the government that after quitting power it had to be made accountable to people for its all misdeeds and misrule. "All are made accountable after their departure. We must be accountable to Allah when we will leave this world. The same way, this government will have to be accountable to people after it quits power."

The former Prime Minister came up with the harsh remarks while addressing the inaugural session of the 7th national council of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, BNP's labour wing, at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in the city.

Reiterating her party's demand for arranging a fresh national election under a non-party caretaker government, Khaleda said had the current 'illegal regime had the minimum sense of shame it would have quit and hold an election under a neutral administration.

She accused the government of burying democracy after assuming office through a 'voter-less' election and also warned that people were now ready to oust this regime and restore democracy.

Referring to the abduction of Abu Bakar Siddique, husband of green activist Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Khaleda said the government had shown its sense of prudence by releasing Siddique or else it would have to face an oust-government movement.
