The government has fixed the prices of salted rawhides and skins of sacrificial animals for the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha, with an increase of Tk 2.0 per square foot (sqft) compared to that of previous year.
The rawhide prices of salted sacrificial cows have been fixed at Tk 62-67 per sqft in the capital city and Tk 57-62 outside Dhaka. The prices of goat hides have been set at Tk 25-30 per sqft and the prices of baqri skins at Tk 22-25 per sqft.
The minimum price of small size cowhides has not been fixed this year. Last year, the interim government fixed minimum prices of small size cowhides.
The prices were fixed at a meeting held on Wednesday at the commerce ministry. Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir and Commerce Secretary (routing charge) Md. Abdur Rahim Khan, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan, Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah MofazzalHoussain (Kaikobad), Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid, and State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shaikh Faridul Islam and representatives of the different trade bodies were present at the inter-ministerial meeting attended the meeting.
Last year, the rawhide prices of salted sacrificial cows were at Tk 60-65 per square foot (sqft) in the capital city and Tk 55-60 per sqft outside Dhaka.
The prices of goat hides were fixed at Tk 22 to 27 per sqft and the prices of 'baqri' skins at Tk 20-22 per sqft.
Minister said the government has taken all kinds of steps to preserve rawhides and skins of sacrificial animals across the country. And a required amount of money has been allocated for this purpose.
