The National Pay and Services Commission will recommend a package of benefits instead of cash payment for public servants.
"Enhancement of cash benefits sometimes fuels inflation. Taking the matter into consideration we want to recommend some extra benefits like health insurance and stipend for the children of the government officials and employees," said Mohammad Farashuddin, Chairman of the commission on Tuesday.
The commission will submit its report before the Victory Day (16th December) 2014, Farashuddin said this after the commission's third meeting held at the finance ministry's conference room. Finance Minister AMA Muhith attended the meeting.
"The tenure of the commission will expire on June 17, 2014. We sought extension for another six months," Farashuddin said.
The main objective of the Pay and Services Commission is to get maximum efforts and services from the public servants by offering them the maximum possible salary and other benefits, he added.
The government on November 24, 2013 formed the eighth pay and services commission to formulate a new pay structure for public servants.
In August, 2008, the then military-backed caretaker government formed a 13-member pay commission headed by former secretary M Mustafizur Rahman.
The seventh pay commission took 14 months to submit its recommendations although the subsequent government implemented the pay rise with retrospective effect from July, 2009.
The sixth pay commission was formed in July, 2004 while the fifth in September, 1996, fourth in July, 1989, third in 1984, second in February, 1976 and the first one in July, 1972.
