The government has decided to take some steps to ensure proper hygienic maintenance of poultry farms and birds that are not affected by the 'avian' virus.
The ministry of fisheries and livestock took the decision during a meeting with the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Association (BPIA) Wednesday. Chaired by fisheries and livestock secretary Syed Ataur Rahman, the meeting was attended, among others, by representatives from BPIA and World Health Organisation (WHO).
The government also decided to give Tk 95 for each culled layer chicken as compensation to the affected poultry farmers.
"The government will cooperate with us to implement bio-security in every farm, to ensure proper cleanliness to stop spread of bird flu," BPIA secretary general MM Khan told the FE.
The authorities will take the help of local health workers to protect the poultry farms in the districts and upazila level.
At the farm level, the authorities will ensure proper maintenance by culling the affected birds and destroying the eggs.
In the city, Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) will clean every market after trading every day.
Nearly 10,000 chickens were culled and over 3,000 dozen eggs were destroyed during the last 12 days following fresh outbreak of bird flu in five districts of the country.
