The interim government will meet with the chief of the two major alliances, Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia, for a smooth transition to democracy through handover of power to an elected government, the government spokesperson said Monday, reports bdnews24.com.
Adviser Hossain Zillur Rahman, who also oversees commerce and education ministries, said the meetings would take place whenever two leaders agree to sit as they are busy electioneering ahead of the general elections slated for December 29.
"We have taken this meeting initiative to create an atmosphere of trust in the election as well as a smooth handover of power after a successful and acceptable election," he said.
"We do not fear any untoward incident in the run-up to, during and after the election," added Hossain Zillur at a news briefing at the commerce ministry's conference room. Additional Commerce Secretary Golam Mostakim was present.
Asked whether any discussion will be held on how the next government will run, he said, "The next government will decide how it will go on."
"There is an action plan made with us that will be handed over to the next government. It depends on them whether to accept it or not.
