Hadi passes away at S'pore hospital

His death draws condolences, sparks widespread protests

Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi passed away on Thursday night while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital.
His body will be brought home by this evening. His janaza will be held at Manik Mia Avenue in the city after Zohr prayer tomorrow (Saturday).
His untimely demise following an attack on him earlier on December 12 sparked protests in different places of the country including the capital’s Shabagh.

Until our going to press at 2:00 am about 30 newsmen and others were learnt to have been trapped inside the Daily Star building. Fire Service teams rushed to the spot and continued the rescue operation.
President Shahabuddin Ahmed, Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and others condoled his death.
Leaders of different political parties including BNP, NCP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Gano Odhikor, AB Party and others expressed their sorrow over the death of
the spokesman of Inqilab Mancha, a platform formed after the July Uprising of 2024.
Inqilab Moncho first confirmed the news on Facebook, saying that in the fight against Indian influence, Allah had accepted Hadi as a martyr.
The BNP said it was deeply saddened by the death of Hadi, who was also planning to run as an independent candidate in Dhaka-8.
Its student wing, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, held a protest march at 11:30 pm on Thursday at Shahbagh.
BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman also expressed sorrow.
He said Hadi's killing shows the tragic human cost of political violence.
He offered condolences to Hadi's family and supporters, and called on the interim government to quickly investigate, arrest those responsible, and ensure punishment.
NCP leader Nahid Islam said Hadi was one of the main commanders of the July Revolution and embraced martyrdom with a smile.
He said they would not stop fighting until Hadi's dream of justice comes true, and that Hadi's death would inspire millions.
Jamaat-e-Islami also mourned Hadi, calling him a frontline fighter of the July movement.
The party prayed for Allah's mercy and the highest place for him in Paradise.
