GAZIPUR, July 22 (UNB): BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's adviser Brig (retd) Hannan Shah and his son, detained in four extortion suits, were Sunday set free from Kashimpur jail as they have secured bail in all the cases.
Both the father and the son walked to freedom in the afternoon, two and a half months after they were arrested and sent to jail custody as a countrywide drive against serious crime and corruption continued under the interim regime.
Hannan Shah's wife, Nahida Hannan, and a number of party leaders and workers were present at the jail gate.
Walking out of the jail, Hannan Shah, who had been vocal in defence of his beleaguered party chief and ex-PM before taken in, alleged that he was 'conspiratorially' detained in prison.
His son Shah Rezaul Hannan also told the newsmen that the act of the present government is 'unprecedented'. "The government conspiratorially harassed us by sending into jail."
