Business leaders, policymakers and experts from across the world are going to gather in Dhaka on October 25-26 to work out strategies for spurring the global economy through harnessing Asia's untapped potential.
The National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), a world business organisation, is going to arrange the international conference on 'Global Economic Recovery: Asian Perspective'.
ICC Bangladesh (ICCB) will organise the two-day ICC International Conference in celebration of its 20 years of presence in the country, officials said.
President of the ICCB Mahbubur Rahman announced the schedule of the international event at a press conference in the city Monday.
The press conference was attended, among others, by President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Mohammad Shahjahan Khan, its Vice-President Khandker Shahidul Islam, former President Asif Ibrahim and Secretary AHM Rezaul Kabir.
Around 500 delegates, including ministers, industry and business leaders, experts, economists, ICC leaders and academics from home and abroad, especially from the Asian countries, are expected to attend the meet.
UNCTAD Secretary-General Mukhisa Kituyi, Deputy Prime Minister of Kuwait Dr Abdulmoshen Al-Medeij, Bangladesh Finance and Commerce Ministers AMA Muhith and Tofail Ahmed respectively, and ICC Secretary-General John Danilovich are among those who have already accepted the invitation to attend the function.
ICCB is trying for participation of President Md Abdul Hamid as chief guest.
Details about the speakers and participants will be disclosed on October 19.
As importance of the event, Mr Rahman said the world economy, five years after the global recession, is showing signs of bouncing back this year. In this turnaround, Asia, led by China, Japan and India, "plays a significant role", the ICCB chief told the press meet.
"Asia is expected to continue to lead the way for sustained world growth and, therefore, it is imperative that the world leaders give their top-most priority to the development of an integrated global strategy for sustaining the projected world growth momentum."
In this perspective, he said, the ICC International Conference in Dhaka will be a platform for the stakeholders-public and private sectors, industry and business leaders, policymakers, think-tanks and academics-to share their thoughts and ideas on the strategies that the Asian countries can adopt to maintain sustained economic growth.
The event will also provide great opportunity for the local business leaders, policymakers and economists to not only explore new horizons of business but also make effective use of international opportunities through interaction with the foreign delegates.
The ICCB president invited all the stakeholders to register and participate in the international event, to be held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) and Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel.
