NARAYANGANJ, May 4 (Agencies):  A dawn-to-dusk hartal, enforced by the District Bar Association protesting the recent abduction and killing of their fellow lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar and six others, observed spontaneously in the district Sunday.
All modes of vehicles, except for a few rickshaws, stayed off the streets, while business establishments, including hotels and restaurants, kept their shutters down.
No picketing was observed on the city roads in the district.  A large number of police have been deployed in the district to fend off any untoward incident.
Narayanganj District Bar Association announced on Thursday the daylong hartal in the district in protest against the killing of Chandan Sarkar, a senior lawyer at Narayanganj District Judge's Court and six others after their abduction.
Meanwhile, State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Sunday reiterated that the killers of seven persons including Councillor Nazrul Islam will be arrested soon."If there is any godfather of Nur Hossain exist, he will be brought to book," he stated after an inter-ministerial meeting on Ensure Security on Water Ways at his ministry conference room here.
Addressing the press briefing, the state minister said, "The government will do whatever require to arrest the criminals." He further said Nur Hossain was under surveillance, but went into hiding at one stage
"Nur Hossain and his close relatives had been under the watch of the law-enforcing agencies, but he went into hiding at one stage…the law enforcers are trying to hunt him down," he told reporters.
