Hasanul Haq Inu arrested

FE REPORT | August 27, 2024 00:00:00

Former Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu was arrested from the Uttara area in the city on Monday afternoon.

A team of detectives arrested Inu, the president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), from a flat, said Kazi Ziauddin, deputy commissioner of Gulshan Division (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Inu was arrested in connection with a murder case filed with New Market Police Station on August 21 of this year, according to DMP sources.

Several other cases have been filed against him so far with different police stations.

The veteran politician has been taken to the office of the detective branch (DB) of the police at Minto Road.

JSD is an ally of the Awami League-led 14-party coalition. Hasanul Haque Inu served as the information minister in one of the cabinets of the AL government.

He, however, lost in the 12th parliamentary elections to a rebel AL candidate from a Kushtia constituency.

Leaders and activists of the Awami League and cabinet members of Sheikh Hasina's government went into hiding after she resigned as Prime Minister on August 5 of this year in the face of a mass uprising. Many of them have left the country in the meantime, while some of them have been arrested by law enforcers.
