Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been cleared in another graft case filed during the past BNP-Jamaat regime, as the High Court Thursday quashed all proceedings against her in the Meghnaghat Power Plant case, reports UNB.
After hearing the long-pending petition, an HC division bench comprising Justice M Shamsul Huda and Justice Abu Bakar Siddiquee delivered the judgment.
Quashing the case proceedings, the High Court said that there was no element of offence against Hasina in the case.
Hasina was not named in the First Information Report (FIR), the court order said, adding that she was implicated in the chargesheet as a means of political harassment aimed at ruining her public image.
The trial was initiated at a special metropolitan court on October 17, 2002. On December 2 of the same year, Hasina, then the leader of the opposition in Parliament, filed the petition with the HC for the case to be dropped.
