Awami League (AL) president Sheikh Hasina fell sick Saturday at her Sudha Sadan residence and cancelled her day's election-related programme, while her younger sister Sheikh Rehana arrived in the city from London early Saturday, report UNB.
"Sheikh Hasina was suffering from fever as her body temperature went high," said a Sudha Sadan official.
Earlier, Sheikh Rehana reached the Zia International Airport at 3am in a British Airways flight. Now she is staying at Sudha Sadan, and will stay there until the election, added the official.
Hasina's son Sajib Wazed Joy may also arrive in the city on Dec 16 to assist his mother in her election campaign, party leaders said.
The former prime minister was scheduled to inaugurate her party's Media Centre at Dhanmondi for the forthcoming parliament election coverage, but she could not attend the function.
AL presidium member Motia Chowdhury, who inaugurated the media centre instead, said Hasina could not eat anything since dawn.
"Sheikh Hasina is suffering from high temperature and nausea. She couldn't take anything from the morning," Motia said about her party chief's health condition.
