Hasina, Rehana, family members indicted

Two separate special courts in Dhaka have framed charges against 27 individuals, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and their family members, in six cases filed on charges of abusing power in acquiring plots in RAJUK's Purbachal New Town Project.
Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, and Rehana's son Radwan Mujib Siddique Bobby and daughters Tulip Rizwana Siddique, and Azmina Siddique Ruponti are among the accused.
Judge Md Robiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge's Court-4 and Judge Md Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge's Court-5 passed the orders after holding hearings on charge-framing in three cases at each court.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had filed six separate cases in January this year over corruption in plot allocation. Sheikh Hasina, her family members and RAJUK officials were made accused in the cases.
The courts also ordered arrest warrants against the accused, including Sheikh Hasina, as they are currently absconding. Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam confirmed the court order to the FE.
Judge Md Abdullah Al Mamun fixed August 11 to start witness deposition in three cases. The three cases heard by him include one where 12 individuals, including Hasina, are named as accused, another one where 17 individuals, including Joy, were accused and another case where 18 individuals, including Putul, have been named as accused.
Judge Md Robiul Alam fixed August 13 to start deposition in three cases heard by him. According to court sources, 17 people, including Sheikh Rehana, Tulip Rizwana Siddique, Sheikh Hasina, were accused in one case, 18 individuals, including Azmina Siddique Ruponti, Radwan Mujib Siddique Bobby, Sheikh Hasina, were accused in another case, and 18, including Radwan Mujib Siddique, and Sheikh Hasina, have been named as accused in another case.
Earlier on July 1 this year, judge of the Senior Special Judge's Court in Dhaka, Md Jakir Hossain Galib, ordered the ACC to publish a gazette notification summoning the accused in connection with six graft cases. Later the court on July 20 directed that the six cases be forwarded, with three assigned to Dhaka Special Judge's Court-4 and three to Dhaka Special Judge's Court-5 for trial.
