Awami League (AL) president Sheikh Hasina, who was recovering from illness on Sunday, starts election campaign today (Monday), the party spokesperson said, report UNB and bdnews24.com.
"Our leader will start election campaign from Monday," AL joint general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam told reporters at Bangabandhu Bhaban in Dhanmondi.
The former prime minister would hold public rallies at a number of areas in the city including Hazaribag, Mohammadpur, Pallabi, Kafrul and Karwan Bazar.
Hasina could not take part in programmes to mark the Martyred Intellectuals Day on Sunday morning due to illness.
Later, in the afternoon, she paid floral tributes at the Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard in Mirpur, Rayerbazar killing field and Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi 32, as she felt better.
"Hasina will go to Tungipra the day after the Victory Day," Ashraf said.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina Sunday urged people to vote for 'Boat', her party's election symbol, to bring the pro-liberation forces in power.
The former prime minister also asked all candidates of the Grand Alliance to boost their election campaign in respective areas to defeat the anti-liberation forces.
"In this month of victory, the December 29 election is another chance to attain victory against the anti-liberation forces. Get more united and remain careful so that the war criminals and communal forces cannot come to power," Hasina said.
She was addressing a discussion meeting, arranged at the premises of Bangabandhu Bhaban to mark the Martyred Intellectual Day.
Hasina said through the murder of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the defeated forces of 1971 liberation war and the communal forces had been rehabilitated.
"Vote for Boat. Bring in the power of justice against all injustices, so that the evil forces cannot oppress people any more… the war criminals must not be allowed to fly the glorious red and green national flag on their cars," she said.
Hasina said the dream of the martyrs was that people would live in peace, would get all daily essentials at fair prices, and live a better life. "To fulfill the dreams, utilise the chance of December 29. Inshallah, Awami League will build such a Bangladesh where everybody will have food and shelter," she said.
AL leader Syed Ashraful Islam and all candidates of the Grand Alliance from the city were present at the discussion meeting.
