Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will highlight the urgency of resolving the Rohingya crisis in the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), said foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen.
The Rohingya issue will be discussed in this session and there will be a number of events on the sidelines as well.
As the host country of the displaced Rohingya, it is essential for Bangladesh to present its stance on the issue, the minister said.
He was talking with reporters on the Prime Minister's upcoming visit to the UNGA on Wednesday.
Hasina will arrive in New York on September 22 to attend the 74th UNGA session, which will end on September 29.
The PM placed a five-point proposal to resolve the Rohingya issue in the 72th session and in the 73th session last year; she placed a three-point proposal modifying the previous one.
"A strong speech from Bangladesh is necessary to ratchet up international pressure on Myanmar for the quick repatriation of the Rohingya," Dr Momen noted.
Hasina will also attend a high-level side event of the Organsiation of Islamic Cooperation on the 'Situation of Rohingya minority in Myanmar'.
The event will discuss the role of the Islamic world in resolving the Rohingya crisis.
Responding to a question, the foreign minister said that a tripartite meeting among Bangladesh, Myanmar and China may be held on the sidelines of the UN events.
The PM may also have meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UN secretary general, and top executives of international oil company ExxonMobil.
The PM, in her speech, will also focus on the successes of her government and her plan to carry forward the present pace of development and democratic practices and governance.
During this visit, the Prime Minister will receive two awards -the "Vaccine Hero" will be awarded to her by the Global Alliance for Vaccination and Immunisation and the 'Champion of skill development of Youth' by the UNICEF.
On September 23, the PM will take part in a panel discussion on 'Universal Health Coverage as driver of equity, inclusive development and prosperity for all' as Co-chair.
On the same day, she will take part in the Climate Action Summit.
On September 24, she will attend the meeting of the Global Commission on Adaptation.
Hasina will take part in a roundtable organised by the US Chamber of Commerce, which will focus on the promotion of the bilateral trade between the USA and Bangladesh.
