HC stays Gazipur city election

The High Court has stayed the Gazipur City Corporation elections for three months after hearing a petition against redistricting in the area, reports bdnews24.com.
The decision by Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed came on Sunday, only nine days before the polls.
The Election Commission was preparing to hold the elections on May 15 with candidates from all the major parties doing hectic campaigns.
On January 16, 2013 the EC issued a gazette bringing six administrative districts (mouzas) under the Gazipur City Corporation. On Sunday Shimulia-1 Union Chairman ABM Azharul Islam Suroj filed a petition challenging the gazette.
