Heat wave has intensified and is sweeping across the country forcing the people to stay inside their houses or in cooler places to avoid scorching hot weather, reports BSS.
The sweltering summer heat was unbearable for those working in the sun or living in non-air-conditioned homes. Situation is worse in rural areas, particularly in northern parts of the country, as people spend more time in their farmland during the blistering heat.
Roads, market places and busy places in both rural and urban areas were deserted as people preferred to remain indoors to escape the sweltering heat.
An official of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) told the news agency that both day and night temperature has soared four to five degrees Celsius than normal.
"Minimum night temperature was recorded at 30 degree celsius in Dhaka city last night as some cloudy weather prevailed in the sky. This extreme heat may continue in the next couple of days as less rainfall is likely to continue this week," he added.
Met Office recorded highest maximum temperature of 39 degree Celsius at Rajshahi on Saturday, which has fallen slightly than Friday's highest temperature of 39.8 at Chuadanga, he added.
Mild to moderate heat wave is now sweeping over Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and the regions of Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Chandpur, M.court, Barisal and Patuakhali and may continue.
