Help flood victims, Moeen tells rich

NETRAKONA, Aug 1 (UNB): As flooding caused havoc in country's northern part, Army Chief General Moeen U Ahmed urged the solvent people of society to join forces with the government and the army for tackling the flood situation.
"If we all try together, tackling the floods will not be difficult," he said to his civil audience after distributing relief among the flood-stricken people on the premises of Kalmakanda College.
He visited the flood-affected areas of Kalmakanda upazila of the district, one of the worst-hit districts, in the morning and then went to Jamalpur.
The Chief of Army Staff termed flood as a "national problem" and said all have to work together to save the flood-affected people. "Government or army cannot solve the problem alone."
He mentioned that army troops are conducting relief operation and rescuing the flood-affected people suspending their regular activities.
"Army personnel have solved different problems successfully in the past and flood situation will be tackled sincerely this time also," said General Moeen, whose forces are already out in aid of the caretaker government engrossed in a nationwide combat against serious crime and corruption.
He also said that army medical teams are working in the hard-hit upazila. Besides, district administration is also working for the flood-affected people here.
