The holy Shab-e-Barat, the night of fortune, will be observed across the country with religious fervour tonight (Saturday night) seeking divine blessings for the well-being of mankind, reports UNB.
The observance of Shab-e-Barat has special significance for Muslims, who believe that on this auspicious night Almighty Allah will determine the fate of all living beings for the coming year. Devotees praying to Allah during the holy night seeking His forgiveness can expect their sins to be forgiven.
Muslim devotees will spend the night at mosques and homes, offering special prayers and reciting from the holy Quran. They will also hold Milad Mahfil, visit the graves of their near and dear ones and offer Fateha for salvation of the departed souls.
On the holy night, the Muslims will distribute food and sweets among the neighbours and the poor.
Many homes and streets will also be illuminated with candles and strands of lighted electric bulbs to provide a joyful ambience to the festival.
President Iajuddin Ahmed and Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed gave separate messages felicitating the Muslim Ummah as well as the countrymen on the auspicious occasion.
In his message, Professor Iajuddin said: "We can make our life beautiful and successful by following the dictates of holy Quran and the path shown by Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH)."
He added: "We should seek special blessings from the Almighty on this night and pray for the country's continued prosperity and for the unity of Muslim Ummah."
In a separate message, Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed made a fervent appeal to the countrymen to be united for establishing a just, welfare-oriented and enlightened democratic society by sinking all differences.
"Let's all make a firm pledge to establish equality, amity, justice, humanity and good governance," he said and called for following the great ideals of Islam and acquiring fundamental qualities for achieving these objectives.
Dr Fakhruddin sought blessings of Almighty Allah for well-being of the people and the country.
On the occasion, Bangladesh Television (BTV), Bangladesh Betar and private television channels will air special programmes and newspapers will publish articles highlighting the significance of the holy Shab-e-Barat.
Islamic Foundation and other socio-religious organisations will arrange discussions, Qurankhwani, Waz and Milad Mahfil.
