Huge arms, ammo hauls in Ctg, Sylhet, Satkhira

CHITTAGONG, July 3 (bdnews24.com): The police seized a sizeable cache of arms and ammunition early Tuesday from a rubber plantation area of Kanchan Nagar in Fatikchhari Upazila.
In Sylhet, RAB in a swoop arrested a notorious pro-Awami League student activist and recovered arms and ammunition from him, officials said.
Fatikchhari Police Station duty officer sub-inspector Enamul Haque told the news agency that on being tipped off, a police contingent led by officer-in-charge MA Jalil raided the rubber plantation area at around 1:30 am and retrieved the cache of arms and ammunition.
The cache in Fatikchhari included a G-3 rifle and three magazines, one 303 rifle and a magazine, one .22 bore air-gun and 245 rounds of 303 rifle bullets, 75 rounds of G-3 bullets and 24 rounds of M-16 rifle bullets.
In Sylhet, the elite crime busters raided the home of Bidhan Kumar Saha and arrested him early Tuesday, Rab-9 officer Ferdous Khan said.
They later seized two US-made shotguns, one AK-22, two magazines and one revolver from him.
Bidhan, a former organising secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League, is allegedly involved in illegal arms business, Khan said.
UNB from Satkhira adds: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members seized three firearms, 10 bombs and ammunitions from Nalta Indranagar village in Kaliganj Upazila Tuesday morning.
On receipt of information, the team raided the house of one Shahamat Ali at about 10:00 am and recovered a gun, two pipe-guns and two rounds of bullet and bombs.
