The government has cancelled the Independence Day military parade in view of the situation arising out the massacre of army officers at the BDR headquarters, as all concerned are now busy in dealing the aftermath of the tragedy, reports UNB.
Local Government and Rural Development Minister Syed Ashraful Islam announced the decision after a meeting of the cabinet committee on law and order at the Home Ministry Thursday.
Ceremonious national parade is generally organised at the National Parade Square to celebrate the anniversary of the nation's independence on March 26.
But a pall of gloom descended on the parade ground when mass funerals for some 50 dead - 48 army officers, wife of BDR DG Maj Gen Shakil and one soldier - took place some days back.
