The Covid-19 infection rate in the country increased further by 12.57 per cent on Tuesday as 1,699 more people tested positive in the last the 24 hours ending 8am on the day.
The infection rates were recorded 11.99 per cent and 11.55 per cent on Monday and Sunday respectively, according to a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) release.
However, the number of fatalities from Covid-19 was comparatively low at 16 on Tuesday compared to that on the previous day when 25 patients died.
Among the deceased, 15 were males and one female, the DGHS release said.
A total of 13,620 samples were tested while 13,616 samples were collected across the country during the last 24 hours until Tuesday morning.
With the latest figures, the number of total fatalities from the novel coronavirus reached 6,108 since the virus was detected first in Bangladesh in March last.
However, the rate of fatalities from the disease remained almost static at 1.44 per cent while the rate of recovery from it was recorded at 80.59 per cent, the release mentioned.
A total of 1,648 people recovered from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, it mentioned.
