Both the numbers of detection and fatalities from coronavirus (Covid-19) rose further on Wednesday compared to those of the previous day, according to official data.
A total of 23 people - 19 males and four females - died from Covid-19 during the last 24-hour reporting time on Wednesday while the number of deaths was 20 in the previous day, said a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
On the other hand, the number of people freshly diagnosed with Covid-19 also rose to 1,493 on Wednesday against 1,335 on Tuesday, it said.
With Wednesday's figures, the number of total fatalities from Covid-19 reached 5,861 since the virus was first detected in Bangladesh in March last.
A total of 12,357 samples were tested during the last 24 hours while some 12,506 samples were collected across the country during the last reporting period.
Although the rates of fatalities from the disease remained almost static at 1.45 per cent on Wednesday, the rate of detection rose to 12.08 per cent on the day from that of 10.58 per cent on the previous day, according to the DGHS press release.
However, a total of 1,610 people recovered from the Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, it mentioned.
The rate of recovery from the disease was recorded at 79.32 per cent, it said.
According to the official data, a total of 403,079 people have so far been tested with Covid-19in Bangladesh and out of them 319,733 recovered from the deadly disease.
