Int'l business confce begins in city Oct 31

A two-day high-profile International Business Conference begins in the city October 31 aiming to promote Bangladesh economy in the world market.
Arranged by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) marking its 50th founding anniversary, the conference will be attended by top trade policy-makers of the region and the world as well. Supachai Panitchpakdi, secretary general of UNCTAD and Patricia Francis, executive director of International Trade Centre will also attend.
DCCI arranged a media briefing Tuesday in the city where its president Hossain Khaled updated the senior journalists on the upcoming event.
"The conference will pave the way for adopting business strategies by our public and private sector to remain competitive and sustain the growth," Hossain Khaled said.
The DCCI president said ministers of different countries will attend the Conference to be inaugurated at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the city.
Among others, Minister for Export Development and International Trade of Colombo Prof GL Peiris, Minister for Commerce and Industry of Nepal Rajendra Mahato, Minister for Commerce and Industry of Oman Said Amer Sultan Al-Riyami, State Minister for Commerce of India Jal Ram Ramesh and Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs of the Royal Government of Bhutan Dasho Sonam Tshering are expected to attend the conference.
Latifur Rahman of MCCI, Mahbubur Rahman of ICC-Bangladesh, Debapriya Bhattacharaya, Rehman Sobhan and Farooq Sobhan, among others, will speak on different economic issues in the programme.
They will take part in different roundtables as keynote presenters and panel discussants. The two-day event includes four parallel roundtables, trade fair, a grand light and sound show at Lalbagh Fort depicting changes of couture and cuisine of Dhaka over the last 400 year, unwrapping of a book on 400 years of commercial history of Dhaka and DCCI business awards.
DCCI senior vice president Salahuddin Abdullah, vice president Khandaker Shahidul Islam and other directors of the chamber were present in the briefing.
