The central bank has relieved Mr HBM Iqbal and his daughter Nawrin Iqbal of their directorships in the Premier Bank Limited as a Dhaka court has found them guilty in a graft case and delivered prison sentences.
The central bank issued an order Sunday declaring the posts vacant in line with the existing bank companies act, officials said.
Mr. Iqbal was the chairman of the private commercial bank.
On 25 March last, the Bangladesh Bank (BB) issued show-cause notices on the chairman of the Premier Bank Limited and its director to explain within the next seven days why the two directors would not be removed from their respective posts following their convictions by a court.
On March 11 last, a special court sentenced HBM Iqbal to a 10-year rigorous and three-year simple imprisonment in a graft case and other offences, including amassing wealth by illegal means.
Nawrin Iqbal was also jailed for three years as she was found guilty of abetting her father in the crime.
