Jahan Moni crew return home

CHITTAGONG, Mar 21: All crew members of the freed Bangladesh flag vessel MV Jahan Moni landed at Chittagong Shah Amanat Airport this afternoon. An Oman Airways flight carrying 26 crew members and wife of chief engineer of the ship touched the airport at 3.28 pm. Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, former city mayor and Awami League leader ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, relatives of the sailors and senior officials of the ship's management company received the crew members at the airport. From the airport they were brought to Hotel Saint Martin at Agrabad commercial area in the city and were accorded a warm reception. The Somali pirates took control of the ship at gunpoint in the Arabian Sea near Indian coast on December 5 last year and took it to their den at Garacad village of the Somali coast on December 12. They demanded a handsome amount of money as ransom for release of the ship and its crew. Following three months' negotiation the pirates released the ship and its crew on March 14, 2011. The ship was taken to the Sallalah port of Oman where the crew handed over charge of the ship to the new crew members appointed by the management for Jahan Moni. New master and his team members took charge of the ship on Saturday morning. The freed crew members went through medical check-up in Oman. After smooth completion of immigration, visa and other formalities the crew member were boarded on an Oman flight on Monday morning. Those released are Mushtaq Al-Mahmood (Master), Mirza Reza Rabbani (Chief Officer), Alamgir Kabir (Second Officer), Md Amirul Hasan (Third Officer), Omar Faruk (Deck Cadet), Md Mohiuddin (Chief Engineer), Sanjoy Kumar Sen (Second Engineer), Aminur Rasul (Third Engineer), Faridul Islam (Fourth Engineer), Iftikhar Ahmed (Eng. Cadet), Nazrul Islam (EI Eng), Moksed Ali (Nav. Watch Rating-1),Md Idris (Nav. Watch Rating-2), Md Tauhidul Alam (Nav. Watch Rating-3), Md Nazrul Islam (Deck Rating), Abdul Mannan (Eng. Watch Rating-1), Md Rafiqul Islam (Eng. Watch Rating-2), Md Mamudul Hasan (Eng. Watch Rating-3), Md Iqbal Hossain (Engine Rating), Md Noor Uddin (Ch. Cook), Kamal Hossain (Saloon Rating), Mohammed Tarek (Jr. Elec Engr), Md Abdur Rahim (Second Cook), Md Sazzad Hossain (Deck Cadet), Saiful Islam Khan (Deck Cadet) and Md Khurshed Alam (Eng Cadet). They are all Bangladeshi nationals. The Master of the ship is aged 58 years while others are in the age group between 22 and 50 years.
