Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (BJI) has expelled Satkhira-4 Member of Parliament (MP) Gazi Nazrul Islam from the party after an internal investigation found evidence of "moral misconduct".
The decision was made at an emergency meeting of the party's central executive council held on Wednesday afternoon at the official Dhaka residence of Opposition Leader and Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman.
The meeting was chaired by Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, and members of the Central Executive Council were present.
After the meeting, the BJI issued a statement signed by Jamaat Assistant Secretary General and Central Publicity and Media Secretary Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair.
The statement said that the party launched an organisational investigation into allegations surrounding Gazi Nazrul Islam following media reports in recent days.
"The investigation found his moral misconduct to be proven," said the statement.
The central executive council of the BJI decided to expel him from the party under Article 62 of Jamaat's constitution based on the findings.
