BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia said Wednesday that the Jan 22, 2007 election was cancelled on conspiracy, report BSS/bdnews24.com.
"BNP would have been reelected if the election had been held. That's why it was cancelled through a conspiracy," she said at a public rally at Sherpur in Bogra.
Khaleda urged the people to vote for Jane Alam Khoka, a four-party alliance candidate for Bogra-5.
"During the BNP government there were a lot of developments in Bogra in a number of sectors. The development was possible as we wanted progress of the whole country," the former prime minister said.
"Progress was stalled in the country in the last two years. The politicians and businessmen were sent to jail.
"No development is possible without democracy in the country and election is crucial for that," she said.
"If we go to power, we will boost production and the prices of commodities will come within people's reach," Khaleda said.
Meanwhile, at a huge election rally at Majhira High School ground in Bogra, BNP chairperson urged the people to vote for `sheaf of paddy' in the upcoming elections to restore democracy and safeguard the country's independence and sovereignty.
"The sheaf of paddy is not only a poll symbol, it is the symbol of development, independence and sovereignty," she told
