The Japanese government has agreed to provide nearly $250 million fund for setting up a 360-megawatt (mw) power station at Bheramara, as it has recently completed negotiations with the government, officials said Thursday.
Power and finance ministry officials said they had completed discussions with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) last month for the Bheramara power plant project, to be set up by June 2014.
"We are expecting the assured Japanese assistance within this financial year. We will start implementation of the project from early next year," a power division official told the FE.
During negotiations, the JICA mission has given some conditions including the government's gas supply confirmation, and forced retirement of the existing age-old and inefficient gas-fired power units for diverting gas to Bheramara station, he said.
"We've agreed with their conditions. Besides, the government has already taken a project to supply gas to the southwest region. So, the proposed Bheramara power station will get adequate gas supply before its inauguration in FY 2014," he added.
