Take-off and landing at the Zia International Airport (ZIA) in Dhaka resumed at about 1:30 pm Monday after a Jet Airways aircraft had skidded off the runway just before noon, ZIA sources said.
ZIA Director Wing Commander Saeedul Hasan Khan told the FE that the Delhi-bound flight of the Jet Airways with 121 passengers and 10 crewmen aboard skidded some 10 feet off the runway while taking off at about 11:30 am causing suspension of all international flights for two hours.
"Fortunately none was injured in the incident. All the passengers and crewmen were evacuated safely soon after the incident," he said.
The wing commander said carelessness of the aircraft's pilot might have caused the accident. A four-member probe committee, led by Wing Commander Quamrul Islam, has been formed shortly after the incident to find out the cause of it.
"The committee has been asked to submit its findings in 10 days," he added.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Airport Police Station Shamsuddin Chowdhury said the Boeing 737 aircraft of Jet Airways finally took off after 1:30pm.
Following the accident, an aircraft of the Gulf Airways and another of the Emirates remained stranded at the ZIA before flying to their respective destinations.
