Jewelry shop looted in city

A gang of armed robbers looted gold ornaments and cash from a jewelry shop at Bakshibazar Lane of Chawkbazar in the old city early Wednesday. Police quoting employees of New Shohagh Jewelers said a gang of robbers numbering five or six stormed into the shop at about 4:00 am when employees Abu Taher and Paltan were sleeping inside. They woke up as the gangsters knocked the shutter. As the shutter was pulled up they stormed inside. Keeping the two employees hostages at gunpoint the gangsters looted gold ornaments of 52 tolas and Tk 50,000 in cash. Chawkbazar police picked up the two employees for interrogation. — UNB
