JS body backs quota reform

The parliamentary standing committee on public administration gave its opinion on Sunday in favour of bringing about "logical reform" in the existing quota system in government jobs in the light of the constitution.
The Jatiya Sangsad (JS) committee's observation came, days after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced in the parliament that the quota system in government jobs would be abolished, meeting sources said.
In another meeting the parliamentary standing committee on posts and telecommunication ministry decided on Sunday to consider concerns about the proposed Digital Security Bill 2018.
The JS committee will hold meetings with the Editors' Council, the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and the Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO) after May 20.
