JS body recommends filing of corruption case against Matin

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Shipping Sunday recommended filing of case against former adviser of caretaker government MA Matin on charges of corruption, reports BSS.
Committee Chairman Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury presided over the meeting.
The meeting held the former adviser accountable for irregularities in a case with respect to a Chittagong port tender bid and decided to send the related documents to Anti-corruption Commission (ACC).
It asked the shipping ministry to take the lead in this respect. The ACC will examine the documents and take necessary action, the committee observed.
The committee chairman briefed reporters after the meeting at the Sangsad Bhaban. He said the committee has directed the shipping ministry to put in place one additional ro-ro ferry and four ordinary ferries at busy points to take load of home bound passengers during the forthcoming holy Eid festival.
It has also asked the ministry and other concerned agencies to take precautionary steps to make sure safe journey of the passengers. The committee, has moreover, directed proper monitoring of water vessels to make sure they are not taking overload of passengers.
The meeting directed the concerned authorities to file reports on the operation on Benapole land port, Mongla port and extension of service tenure of maritime pilots within one month.
Committee members and shipping minister M Shahjahan Khan, M Shah Alam, M Mazharul Haque Prodhan, Begum Habibur Rahman, Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, M Nazrul Islam Babu Gulam Kibria Dipu Mostafa Kamal Pasha and M Abu Zahir attended the meeting.
The meeting also discussed ways and means of expanding business with Myanmar, conversion of BMTA into a limited company and some other important issues.
Secretary in charge of the Ministry of Shipping M Masud Elahi and other senior officials were present.
