Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Monday passed a bill in a bid to improve the services of private mail operators and courier services with provision of punishment in case of violation of rules. Posts and Telecommunications Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju moved the Post Office (Amendment) Bill, 2009, which was passed through voice votes with a minor amendment. The bill provided legitimacy to courier service institutions and their activities considering their contribution to the society. According to the bill, alongside the postal department, other licensed courier services will be able to transport letters, documents, and other postal services. — UNB
