The Bangladesh Nationalist Party, or BNP, has asked for additional time to review the draft of the July proclamation before sharing their views, reports UNB.

"The matter is so sensitive and important that it cannot be decided with just a one-day notice," BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said at a press conference on Tuesday.

At Tuesday's press conference, Mirza Fakhrul said: "We have received the draft proclamation from Mahfuj Alam and he has requested us to provide our views. "We have discussed the matter and are continuing the discussions.

"We need to consult with other political parties and constitutional experts, as the proclamation contains many constitutional elements that we need to carefully consider.

"We need some time to finalise our position on this."

Fakhrul continued, "BNP is a responsible party. Its very foundation came through reforms.

"The party's founder, Ziaur Rahman, brought multi-party democracy, shifting from a one-party rule, which was the biggest reform."

He concluded, "Reform is an ongoing process, and change is necessary for progress.
