KCC mayor taken on 5-day remand

KHULNA, Nov 4 (UNB): Detained Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Mayor Sheikh Tayebur Rahman was taken on five-day police remand Sunday in an extortion case.
Khulna Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) M Mahbubur Rahman granted the remand rejecting the mayor's bail petition, when he was produced before the CMM court at about 10 am.
Khulna Sadar thana SI Enamul Haq, also investigation officer of the case, sought 10 days' remand, but the court granted five days.
The CMM court also directed the police to interrogate the mayor with care as he is 72 years old and suffering from various diseases.
The three-time Mayor Sheikh Tayebur Rahman was arrested from his Gulshan house in Dhaka Friday night and brought to Khulna by road Saturday evening.
