FE Report
The Bangladesh Bank (BB) has asked banks and non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) to keep their credit information bureau (CIB) cells open today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) to provide default loan-related information to it.
The central bank gave the instruction to provide accurate information of default loans to election officials for scrutinising the nomination papers of the aspirant candidates for the next elections.
Under the instruction, the CIB cells of banks and NBFIs will remain open from 9am to 12 noon on Friday and 9am to 3pm Saturday.
"We've asked the banks and NBFIs to keep open their CIB cells for providing information on classified loan position," a senior official of BB told the FE Thursday.
The commercial banks and NBFIs have been asked to submit their information about default loans until October by November 5 to the central bank.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) asked the commercial banks and financial institutions (FIs) for updating their information about the loan defaulters who might be candidates for the next elections.
As part of the move, the EC has sent a list of elected MPs from 1973 to 2001 to them (banks and NBFIs) to prepare a list of possible loan-defaulting candidates for the next parliament and upazila elections.
