BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia Friday demanded resignation of the incumbent Election Commissioners (ECs) as she observed free and fair elections are not possible under them, reports UNB.
"If the government wants to hold free and fair elections in a true sense, it would not be possible under them," she said addressing a delegation of the Teacher-Employee Oikya Parishad led by its chief coordinator Principal Selim Bhuiyan at her Gulshan office in the evening.
Khaleda also demanded immediate lifting of the state of emergency to ensure a credible vote on the announced date of December 18 in a free and fair manner.
"People want an election. No conspiracy against it will be successful and people won't allow it to succeed," she asserted.
The BNP chief said the elections must be held on December 18 for transfer of power to an elected government. If there is any deviation from that, a dangerous situation would be created in the country.
Alleging that the administration is not neutral, the BNP chief said the caretaker government wants to install a party of its choice in power.
Hinting at Awami League that had termed the incumbent caretaker government as the outcome of their movement, she said it is clear whom they want to install in power.
Khaleda said the dates of upazila parishad elections must be deferred and said the next elected government will conduct the upazila elections.
The former Prime Minister criticised the Election Commission for preparing the voter list ahead of delimitation of the constituencies.
She suggested holding the elections under the previously delimitated constituencies.
She said every conspiracy of this government has failed. Staying in power for two years, they pushed the country 20 years back forcing the people to starve and shattered the national economy.
