BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia Friday greeted Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of AL's 20th national council, reports UNB.
In a letter to Hasina, she thanked her for inviting her to attend the AL national council held Friday and wished its all-out success.
Khaleda wrote the letter to Hasina in response to a formal invitation to her by the AL President Thursday.
BNP Student Affairs Secretary Fazlul Huq Mlion, Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal leader Shirin Sultana and BNP chairperson's special assistant Shimul Biswas carried her letter to the AL council venue at around 10 am.
AL leaders Abdul Mannan, Asim Kumar Ukil and Khaled Mahmud Chowdhury MP received the letter from them on behalf of Sheikh Hasina.
The three-member BNP delegation was present at the opening session of the AL national council at Bangabandhu International Convention Centre.
In the letter, Khaleda expressed the hope that Awami League would come forward further in the days ahead to flourish democratic culture and ensure people's welfare through working on all national issues with a consensus despite differences of opinions about various matters.
The BNP chairperson said Awami League is an old political party and "we have experiences of working together in the nation's ups and downs and in various critical times."
She said a democratic system cannot be imagined without political parties and in the multiparty democratic system there is a necessity of the presence of more than one party.
To meet the requirement, Khaleda said, Shahid President Ziaur Rahman along with reintroducing the multiparty democracy had simultaneously accomplished the reorganisation process of different political parties, including Awami League.
