Khaleda's contempt petition dismissed

The 18-month legal battle over the much-talked about BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's Dhaka Cantonment house came to an end as the Supreme Court Wednesday dismissed her contempt of court petition against the government following her eviction, reports UNB.
"The petition is dismissed as being not pressed," the apex court order said, after hearing the submission by the Advocate-on-Record (AoR) for the petitioner.
As the matter came up for hearing before the 3-member Appellate Division bench, AoR Aftab Hossain submitted that he would not press the petition for hearing, as he did not get any further instruction from the senior lawyers for the petitioner, Khaleda Zia.
Khaleda filed the contempt petition on November 23 following her eviction from the Dhaka Cantonment house despite a pending petition for leave to appeal against the High Court verdict declaring the house vacating notice valid.
On Tuesday, the Appellate Division on the identical ground had dismissed Khaleda's application for leave to appeal along with stay petition and the petition seeking mandatory injunction against the government to maintain status quo on the infrastructure of her checked-out house.
