Awami League-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Syed Khokon appealed on Thursday to the lawyers of the country's apex court to cast their votes in favour of him in the election.
"I am the son of Dhaka, so my right to seek votes from Dhaka city dwellers is much in this case," he said while seeking votes from the lawyers of Supreme Court.
He sought blessings from the lawyers and requested them to cast their votes for 'hilsha fish' on April 28.
Senior lawyer Barrister Amirul Islam, former law minister Abdul Matin Khasru, and president of Bangabandhu Ainjibi Parishad Abdul Baset Majumbder, among others, were present.
"I have many plans for development of Dhaka city. If I'm elected, I will implement the plans. I will ensure citizens' facilities," he said.
Later he went to Chankharpool area, distributed leaflets among people and sought their votes.
"My father late Mohammad Hanif had served Dhaka city dwellers until his death. Please give me a chance for once. I will serve you even with my life," he added.
Meanwhile, Awami League-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Annisul Huq on Thursday called upon people to vote for him, as he said having support from the Prime Minister does not give any guarantee for winning the poll.
"I seek your votes. I want to remain with you (voters). I give you promise that if you elect me, you will get me all time. I will work for you," he said while campaigning in the city's Korail slum area.
He assured the slum dwellers that they will never be evicted without proper rehabilitation. "They (slums dwellers) are our brothers and sisters. It is our responsibility to look after them," he said.
"I am the son of a middle-class family. I've done lots of struggles to reach at my present position.  I was not born with golden spoon in my mouth. You please believe me. It is the local election that does not carry any weight to change the government."
"I have no enemy. I have nothing to say anything against anyone," he added.
Former commerce minister Faruk Khan, Awami League councillor candidate for ward no-19 and several party leaders, among others, were present.
