Last two MRT-06 stations open next week

The Dhaka metro rail company plans to open the remaining Karwanbazar and Shahbagh stations of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line-06 next week.
However, the operating time of the entire 20.1 kilometre metro rail will remain the same.
Sources said Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) had asked the contractor to finish work on Shahbagh and Karwanbazar stations before December 31.
The contractor sources said the work of the two stations was almost done and they were planning to hand them over on Friday.
"The two stations are expected to open on December 31 or the next  day," said a source seeking anonymity.
With the opening of Karwanbazar and Shahbagh stations, the DMTCL will now operate trains touching all 16 stations from 7:10 am to 12:00 noon.
But the operation of the fastest commuter train service from Uttara North to Agargaon will continue till 8:00 pm like now.
The FE tried to reach DMTCL managing director MAN Siddique to get the confirmed date but got no response.
The DMTCL launched the operation of the country's first MRT partially from Uttara to Agargaon on 29 December 2022 touching only two stations for three hours.
It gradually opened nine stations within this part by May 2023 extending operating time until 8:00 pm.
The operation of the MRT-06 up to Motijheel started on November 05 initially from 7:10 am to 11:00 pm with an eye to facilitating first-hour office-goers.
The time has been extended till noon only for the passengers using IC cards named 'MRT Pass' or 'Rapid Pass' with top-up amounts.
