Law minister hints at changes

Law Minister Anisul Huq said on Monday changes will be brought in the 'Digital Security Act' as demands have been made for its amendment, reports UNB.
"We believe in democracy and we'll do everything for the freedom of the media," said the minister while talking to reporters after a meeting with a faction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) at the Secretariat.
The Act will be amended where it is necessary after discussion with the representatives of all organisations who have proposed for amending the act, he said.
"I have told them that the parliamentary watchdog will take into cognizance the concerns being expressed by the Editors' Council, ATCO (Association of Television Channel Owners) and BFUJ about the Act," said Anisul.
Replying to a question, the minister said, "Of course, I think their proposals (for changes) are logical and I have said it before."
President of a faction of BFUJ Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, said, "We have submitted a written opinion regarding the Act to the minister today. In the written proposal we have ten observations and one specific proposal."
"Earlier, we have placed our proposals to the Speaker of the parliament and she advised us to discuss the matter with the law minister," said Bulbul.
