State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal Wednesday said the arrest of three former officials of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), sacked for their alleged involvement in Narayanganj seven murders, was being delayed due to some legal procedures, report agencies.
"We're complying with the High Court (HC) directive on the RAB men's arrest. We're taking a little bit of time for following the due legal process," he said while talking to reporters after a meeting at the secretariat on measures to check smuggling.
Meanwhile, the committee investigating the Narayanganj murders has said they need one more month to complete their probe.
The body constituted on May 7 following an order by the HC submitted its findings to Deputy Attorney General ASM Nazmul Huq Wednesday.
"We were formed by an order of the HC. We have given a progress report. We have also sought from the HC another four weeks to complete our probe," the Law Ministry's Deputy Secretary Mizanur Rahman Khan, a member of the probe team, told reporters.
The committee has visited areas on the banks of the Sitalakhyya at Bandar Upazila where the seven dead bodies including that of Councillor Nazrul Islam were found floating.
Representatives of the probe body submitted the report to Deputy Attorney General ASM Najmul Haq around 2:15 pm. However, the content of the report was not disclosed.
The report will be submitted to the HC bench concerned for hearing Thursday.
Another report adds, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya Wednesday said he also wanted the trial of those involved in the Narayanganj seven murders, and offered his assistance in this connection.
Maya came up with the remarks at a simple ceremony at his ministry where Saudi Ambassador in Dhaka Abdullah bin Nasser Al Basiri handed over 150 tonnes of Saudi dates provided by the Saudi government.
