A special court Sunday jailed former BNP MP and ex-President of Bangladesh Cricket Board Ali Asghar Lobby for 13 years and his wife for three years in a graft case, reports UNB.
The court also fined Lobby Tk 1.0 million (10 lakh), in default to serve six months more in jail, while his wife Khusnad Asghar Looby was fined Tk 0.1 million (100,000), in default to serve one month more in jail.
Judge Shahed Noor Uddin delivered the judgment after examining prosecution witnesses and records.
The court also ordered confiscation of their wealth worth Tk 250 million (25 crore) to the national exchequer.
On March 21 this year, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with Gulshan Police Station accusing Lobby and his wife of concealing information in their wealth statement submitted to the ACC. The Lobby couple amassed wealth of Tk 250 million (25 crore) disproportionate to their known sources of income.
On February 6, the Joint Forces arrested Lobby from his Gulshan house, while his wife, Khusnad, from a city hospital on June 26. Earlier, Lobby was jailed for eight years for evading income tax.
