Local Covid infection rate falls further

The daily death toll due to Covid-19 increased on Tuesday while the infection rate declined further in the country during the last 24 hours until 8:00 am.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported the fatalities at 20 on the day while it was 16 on Monday.

With the latest count, the total death toll from Covid-19 reached 7,942 since the virus was detected first in the country in March last.

On the other hand, some 702 more people were diagnosed with the Covid-19 positive during the last 24-hour reporting time.

A total of 15,097 samples were tested, including antigen-based rapid tests, while 15,574 samples were collected across the country during the same period.

However, the Covid-19 infection rate fell further to 4.65 per cent in the country on Tuesday compared to the previous day's rate of 5.49 per cent, according to the DGHS.

A total of 682 people recovered from the coronavirus disease during the last 24-hour reporting time.

The rate of recovery, which has been maintaining an uptrend in recent days, increased slightly to 89.57 per cent on the day.

On the other hand, the rate of fatalities from Covid-19 remained static at 1.50 per cent.

According to the official data, the total Covid-19 cases have so far reached 5,29,031 in Bangladesh and out of them 4,73,855 recovered from the deadly disease.

On the other hand, over 3.48 million samples have, so far, been tested since March last, the DGHS figures showed.
