Mahbubul Alam passes away

Mahbubul Alam, former editor of The Independent and also a former caretaker government adviser, died at BIRDEM Hospital in Dhaka on Friday morning. He was 79. The senior journalist breathed his last at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital around 9:25am. Family sources and hospital doctors said Mahbubul Alam was admitted to the hospital last week, suffering from several health complications for the last several days. They said he was on life support at the BIRDEM hospital's ICU for the last three days. Mahbubul Alam was born in Munshiganj district on February 5 in 1936 and started his journalism career in 1953. He left behind his wife, three daughters and a host of relatives, friends, colleagues and well-wishers to mourn his death. The first namaj-e-janaza of the senior journalist will be held at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Asr prayers today, according to private TV channels.
