Law and Information Adviser to the caretaker government Mainul Hosein sought cooperation from all in overcoming the present crisis, forewarning that the fallout from failure to do this task would be serious, reports UNB.
"We are passing through a very crucial situation, but we all have to overcome it," he said after holding a meeting with editors of national dailies at his Information Ministry office Sunday, at a time when campus rioting has prompted the interim administration to impose curfew on cities.
Mainul said a move is on to create political instability in the country.
Admitting some mistakes on part of the government, he said everyone has some faults and so does the government in some sectors. And it is the reality.
The Information Adviser expressed his regret for the harassment, obstruction, intimidation and assault on reporters and photographers by law-enforcing agencies.
Describing the incumbent government as temporary, Mainul said, "The main goal of this government is to free politics from corruption and establish a genuine democratic society, and we have to reach the goal."
The Information Adviser said he had a very confidential meeting with the editors and the misunderstanding between the media and the government has to come to an end.
Editors Mahbubul Alam of the Independent, Bazlur Rahman of the Daily Sangbad, Toab Khan of the Janakantha, Rahat Khan of the Daily Ittefaq, Golam Sarwar of the Jugantor, Reaz Uddin Ahmed of the News Today, Mahfuz Anam of the Daily Star, Amanullah Kabir of the Amar Desh, Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury of the Bangladesh Observer, Matiur Rahman Chowdhury of the Daily Manab Zamin, Alamgir Mahiuddin of the Naya Diganta, Abed Khan of the Samokal, Nurul Kabir of the New Age and Shamol Dutta of the Bhorer Kagoj were present at the meeting.
