Malaysia to build 22,000 flats, flyover in city

Malaysia will construct a 13-km flyover and 22,000 apartments in the capital to help Bangladesh government eases Dhaka's notorious traffic jam as well as housing problems of city dwellers, report agencies.
The government has signed memorandums of understanding (MoU) for the construction of flats and flyover.
Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain and Dato Seri Utama S Samy Vellu, special envoy of the Malaysian government, signed three agreements Tuesday.
On the occasion, the minister said that Malaysia would build 12,000 apartments out of 18,000 at Uttara residential area. The rest 6,000 apartments will be constructed by the Bangladesh government, he added.
Besides Uttara, the Malaysian government will also build another 10,000 apartments at Kamrangichar area of the capital.
Mosharraf said work on the three projects will be completed in 30 months since signing of a formal agreement. The design of the flyover has already been done, he said.
