Minister's motorcade comes under attack

SHERPUR, Dec 1 (UNB): Motorcade of State Minister for Water Resources Mahbubur Rahman came under attack by miscreants and 15 people, including Police Superintendent, were injured in a clash in Sadar upazila Wednesday.
Local sources said after visiting Brahmaputra flood protection embankment, Mahbubur Rahman attended a rally at Kamarer Char Bazaar organized by local Awami League.
After attending the rally, the minister along with local MP Atiur Rahman Atik went to nearby Kamarer Char College for having tea.
Meantime, Sadar upazila chairman Ilias Uddin along with his supporters reached the rally venue at about 12:15pm and addressed his supporters condemning the organiser of the rally for not inviting him.
Hearing about the anti-rally speech by upazila chairman, activists of ruling AL and its front organisations protested it, resulting in a clash between two groups, that left 15 people, including Ilias and SP Anisur Rahman injured.
The minister along with MP was confined inside the Kamarer Char College for about one and half an hours due to the clash.
